Do the normal rules of criminal procedure apply to Congressional hearings? I know that the people conducting the hearing are acting on behalf of the state. However, they are not law-enforcement agents. More importantly, the purpose of these hearings is, at least in principle, not to obtain evidence to be used in criminal trials by the prosecution, is it?
I was under he impression that you could plead the 5th in any situation where lying would be perjury. I guess that doesn’t make sense considering the clause that gives defendants compulsory processes for obtaining witnesses for their defense.
No, that’s not the rule. Hold on a couple of pages and you’ll have the real one.
i was close, i said “obscenity laws”
Heh, that reminds me of that US Senator a few decades ago who said that she thought the First Amendment would not apply to Rock music. Fast forward now, and it is video games, or, in this example, webcomics… Nothing changes. :-)
War…War Never Changes.
Republicans fight with guns.
Liberals fight with shuns.
Religion fights with nuns.
We only fight with funs
I notice Delta wincing next to Janie…
Do criminal defense attorneys really dabble in representing clients testifying before Congress?
I am transmitting this message from your future. The following things will be (from your point of view) the next scapegoats:
– Cryptocurrency (2014),
– People saying rude things online anonymously (2015),
– “Hackers” (2016),
– Anonymizing networks (2016),
– Cryptography (2016),
– 3d printers (2017),
– Steganography (2019), and
– Hobbyist photolithography equipment (used to produce non-backdoored computers) (2022)
Oh shit, I think the police have foun&X-BD/6<!NO CARRIER
Nah, cryptocurrency will not get subjected to this, because it already did one hell of a good job looking ridiculous by itself (though it’s not the topic of discussion here).
But yeah, there’s always going to be that ‘new thing corrupting our youth!’
Given the events in Cyprus, the problems in Greece, the issues with the Eurozone… Our own financial instability in the US, and the fact that it’s ILLEGAL to own Gold or Silver as an individual in this country…?
Why is cryptocurrency ridiculous?
Ping me at steyraug96 -@- Yahoo…. (No reason to post here, I think it’s OT.)
It was only illegal to own gold in the US from the 30s to the early 70s. You’re allowed to own gold and silver here.
You should visit jewelry stores more often.
And, topics sometimes diverge interestingly, and there are legal implications to cryptocurrency.
Not betting against it.
Aren’t they already going after 3d printers in California?
Hackers have already been blamed.
In fact, the initial “It’s Hackers!” event was a problem in software (not tested correctly). Shut down the Eastern Seaboard WRT phone calls.
If Box A received two calls within 0.2 seconds, or such, it was set to re-route to companion boxes, shut itself down and restart, and signal “Clear” and take on calls again. It told the system, “I am overloaded.”
Well, all the software went in, and all the engineers were downstairs (literally, per my readings) being taught the new software.
Well, the training was overnight. Light load.
BUT…. Box A got it’s “I’m overloaded” signal. It transferred all its calls to the companion boxes and did it’s restart.
But in the meantime, Box B was carrying extra load…. And two calls came in at 0.2 seconds apart, telling it it was overloaded…. And then Box C, Box D, etc. Cascade of errors.
They were handling about 30% of capacity or so…. The software was flawed.
But AT&T, I think it was, wasn’t willing to admit it brought down the eastern seaboard’s phone exchanges… No, it was “HACKERS!”
It’s not limited to your list, either, South Park LITERALLY went through this. Steganography, too. Any cryptography. THEY can watch US, we CANNOT catch them. Think officer bodycams. Also, in MA, it’s a dual-consent state: both parties must consent to being recorded. But by getting a license (maybe even a government ID now?) you “give consent” to the officer videoing you, recording you. But you can be arrested for filming a pig.
Not responding to “shots fired.” (Streaming could give away location to perps.)
Not even nearby.
Just filming Piggy on Patrol, or writing a parking ticket, or photographing them parked in the handicapped spots, or texting while on their patrol motorcycle….
Just pointing out, you’re a little behind the times, is all. ;-)
How is it possible to make it illegal to record an officer in public or on your own property? You’d have to turn off surveillance cameras.
Every time you say “pig”, I keep thinking you’re talking about Sus Domestica.
Wouldn’t that be a violation of the 1st Amendment anyways?
