A child is not responsible (criminally liable) for actions he couldn’t have known were wrong. The same can be true of adults whose circumstances affect their ability to know right from wrong.

Other things affect responsibility, too. Criminal liability also depends on how directly or indirectly one’s acts CAUSED the bad result.
