Joe had the necessary intent, and he certainly took an action to carry out that intent. But his act is not a “guilty” one. Why? Because his act did not CAUSE the harm.
That’s a pretty obvious example. And equally obvious is the case where Joe threw the brick at Simon’s head.

Causation is fairly straightforward, most of the time.
But what about situations where Joe set in motion a series of events which ultimately caused the injury?
