This is called the Warrant Requirement. But it's not so much a requirement as a preference. And there are exceptions to the warrant requirement. In fact, most searches take place without any warrant, so you could say it's the exceptions that are the rule. It's a trade-off. On the one hand, we want to limit invasions of privacy. But on the other hand, we want the government to protect us from crime by catching and punishing the criminals.\" width=\"700\"
