In other words, agreeing to commit a crime is itself deemed dangerous enough to society to be\u00a0<strong>punishable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Two conspirators in 16th-century attire, on a table bench.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>CONSPIRATOR A<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">So we&#8217;re agreed. Next Monday, we go to the Duke&#8217;s palace&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>CONSPIRATOR B<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u2026Yes, yes! And we steal all the chickens!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>CONSPIRATOR A<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Do what? Okay, maybe we&#8217;re not in agreement just yet.<\/p>\n<p>Some laws require nothing more than the mere agreement. That was the common law definition of the crime.
