Gods replaced other gods all the time, of course. Whenever a new dynasty took over a kingdom, or a new migrating\/conquering people dominated a land, it was normal<\/strong> for them to rewrite<\/strong> their predecessors\u2019 founding myths with their own<\/strong> gods as supreme.<\/p>\n

The new gods might defeat<\/strong> the old ones in a cosmic battle. As when Zeus and his Olympians defeated the Titans\u2026 who had defeated the primordial deities\u2026<\/p>\n

Or the preceding pantheon might get demoted,<\/strong> reduced to mere children of the new dynasty\u2019s cult god. The Egyptian pharaohs did that all the time.<\/p>\n

But that is not<\/strong> what happened when Yahweh merged with El!<\/p>\n

Yahweh now had no father.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t even his own<\/strong> father.<\/p>\n

Nobody had sired him. Nothing had created him. Not even himself.<\/p>\n

Yahweh just\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026was.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This would have some unexpected consequences.<\/p>\n
