That\u2019s not even an exaggeration. From the 4th century B.C. onward, the historical record reveals deep-seated animosity towards Jews everywhere they settled.<\/p>\n

Of course, enduring<\/strong> all this hostility was itself a shared sacrifice. Thus, expatriate Jews bonded even more strongly over their faith, and living by Yahweh\u2019s laws felt even more upright and worthy.<\/p>\n

And so the animosity only got worse<\/strong> with time.<\/p>\n

It was only the beginning. Now, as if touched off by Alexandria\u2019s flames, cities up and down the eastern Med exploded<\/strong> into violence.<\/p>\n

It all simmered down eventually, but the dead were still dead. The damage was done. And it would happen again.<\/p>\n

JEWISH VOICES:<\/p>\n

When God picked his chosen people, why did it have to be us?<\/strong><\/p>\n

NARRATION:<\/p>\n

As if all this tragedy weren\u2019t enough, the cruel irony<\/strong> was that all concerned\u2014Jews and gentiles alike\u2014sincerely felt that they were doing the right thing<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n

That they were taking a stand against evil<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

That they were standing up for good.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Law and culture had clashed<\/strong>\u2014not for the last time\u2014and the outcome was\u2026<\/p>\n
