This drive is so strong that, when we see bad things happen to perfectly innocent people, we want to think that they somehow had it COMING.
Psychologists call this the “Just World” phenomenon, a cognitive bias that explains why someone may feel compelled to blame the victim of a rape, or minimize the suffering of victims of war atrocities or AIDS.
